Frequently Asked Questions
What is gas transport?
In deregulated markets, gas can be delivered onto the utility system and to commercial customers by third-party suppliers such as WoodRiver Energy through a program known as gas transportation. Deregulation and gas transportation have been around since the early 1990s but only recently has it been viable for smaller commercial customers to participate.
What are the benefits of gas transport?
Transport allows customers to choose how they purchase their natural gas. Because we work with predictable usage we can efficiently deliver natural gas, which in turn allows us to offer you the best rates and services possible. Our products are designed to service-specific customer needs, including budget certainty or savings. Ultimately, we want to help you find the right solution that best fits your needs.
Why do utilities allow transport?
Utilities are revenue neutral, meaning they cannot make any profit from the purchase and sale of natural gas on behalf of their customers as regulated by public utility commissions. Utilities that have experienced deregulation allow transport because third-party suppliers do not alter their revenue stream.
Does WoodRiver replace the utility?
WoodRiver does not replace the utility. Your local utility will still be the ones to call if you smell gas or if you suspect there is a leak.
